We believe in a vision of ending child poverty in Wisconsin. We believe that the people of Wisconsin, working together, can cut child poverty in half in the next ten years. Seeking greater equity, our vision includes cutting racial disparities in child poverty in half. We are committed to evidence-based evaluation of progress.

With childhood poverty, comes food insecurity. Children can not function or learn if they are hungry.

Children in poverty do not have the support and resources to learn. Our education failures will not cease until we address poverty.

I believe we have a responsibility to help break the cycle of poverty. The stress of living in poverty makes it difficult for children to learn and leads to lifelong health issues, both mental and physical.

Regardless of the situation that created the environment of poverty it is never a childs fault. Having their basic needs met allows children to learn more effectively and begins to bridge the income equality gap that can create discrimination leading to insecurities and a poor sense of self.

I spent 20 year in adult literacy and found that family literacy programs that helped adults improve their education , and employability skills and parenting skills while providing childcare and head start for children made the biggest difference in helping families get out of poverty! Collaborative relations made the difference!
