Note, if you have collected offline petitions, instead of entering them yourself here please email them as an excel file to bakken@wichurches.org

We believe in a vision of ending child poverty in Wisconsin. We believe that the people of Wisconsin, working together, can cut child poverty in half in the next ten years. Seeking greater equity, our vision includes cutting racial disparities in child poverty in half. We are committed to evidence-based evaluation of progress.

Poverty affects our schools and our communities negatively in many ways, including the economy. Bringing children out of poverty will improve their lives and ours.

Growing up in poverty reduces (and sometimes eliminates) most of the important opportunities kids will have to achieve their human potential and succeed in our society. It is contrary to our values as a country to let some kids have all the opportunities they need while denying other kids these same opportunities. It seems particularly cruel to disenfranchise poor kids from life’s positive opportunities as a random accident of their birth. We moralistically preach to the poor that they should exercise discipline and take the hard road to do the right thing even if wrong choices may seem to bring short-term benefits. As a society, we need to do the same — by forcing ourselves to financially support full-opportunity lives for all kids, regardless of their family’s income status.

When I see billboards urging us to “Save the Babies” I wonder where the passion goes to extend that care beyond birth to help those babies thrive. Children are our future. We have seen the detriment caused to our society by neglecting early childhood needs. If we truly want to “Make America great again”, we need to take care of and invest in our children.

Income-Inequality has increased exponentially! It goes back to former President Nixon & continued with Radical Republicans. Their Policies, Deregulation, Corporate Welfare & Fat Tax Beaks. They Flattened Wages on the Middle-Class since 1980. They Use Racism & Gerrymandering to “win” Elections. They Blame Poor People for being poor & Hating them for it.

All children need the basics & equal opportunities.

Parent’s need Living-Wage Jobs to provide. No one working full-time should live in poverty: nor should they have to work more than one job!
