We believe in a vision of ending child poverty in Wisconsin. We believe that the people of Wisconsin, working together, can cut child poverty in half in the next ten years. Seeking greater equity, our vision includes cutting racial disparities in child poverty in half. We are committed to evidence-based evaluation of progress.

Because the government sure doesn’t care. There are more and more people living in poverty as well as being homeless for a number of reasons. Children are suffering . Someone needs to step up and do something.

Reducing child poverty will create healthy neighborhood and societies. Children will learn better and are more likely to be productive members of society if their families are financially secure. Their parents would be more likely to provide adequate care if they did not have to work two jobs to support their families. Healthier families create healthier societies with less crime or disruption. Let’s take care of our own citizens and not create obstacles for them.

Everyone in the community is better off, if no child is left behind.

As a retired social worker, I am acutely aware of the effects of poverty on our area children and families. We need to work as communities to address the many roots of the problem and hold our elected officials accountable to legislation and policies to mitigate the conditions holding people in poverty.
